We are sad to announce that we will no longer be taking applications for pregnancy and birth care from March 2024 and onwards.
We will however continue to take applications for postpartum care and support only. Please visit our Community Postpartum Program page to fill out an application.
Laura and Meghan have worked as a small team together for close to a decade supporting hundreds of Okanagan families through birth and parenthood. It is hard to say goodbye to the amazing clinic we have built, however, we look forward to the new adventures ahead of us! We appreciate your understanding as we move through these transitions - away from focusing on pregnancy and birth, and working towards supporting parents and families through the first weeks of postpartum!
We have been so happy to serve the birth community over the last many years. It has truly been our privilege to support families through pregnancy, labour & birth, and postpartum. Thank you for the honour of being invited into your birth stories!
You can find both Laura and Meghan working with the team at Maternity Care Westside starting March 2024! Laura will be transitioning to clinic and postpartum support only. Meghan will be joining the ladies at Maternity Care Westside fully to help support their team and will be doing both clinic and on call services, in a hospital based model of care.
POSTPARTUM
Postpartum care (care after the birth) with midwives continues for six weeks. During this time there are scheduled appointments with your midwife at your home and/or in hospital, and at the clinic – you can also page anytime with urgent concerns or questions.
During postpartum visits, we will:
Assess the health and progress of you and your baby
Assist with any breastfeeding difficulties and make a referral to a lactation consultant if needed
Weigh the baby
Offer routine newborn tests (Jaundice screening, Newborn Metabolic Screen, Hearing test)
Provide advice on normal newborn care and development
Discuss the physical changes you can expect after the birth
